How do you get that funny voice out of a balloon from helium?

Do not pull this joke very often at a party. Helium is displacing oxygen in your lung, so essentially every time you pull the gag… you’re gagging yourself. Hypoxic, denial of oxygen to your bloodstream. If you keep doing this, you can actually cause damage to your brain, and not even know it until symptoms begin to appear, like dizziness that doesn’t go away. Normally, your brain will repair itself enough to go back to near perfect levels, but it isn’t really something to be played with as much as people enjoy. People *die* because they suffocate themselves, and no one has any idea that it’s happening.
But the reason that you get the funny voice is because helium is so less-dense than your normal nitrogen-oxygen mix. This leads to the higher-pitched tones that you get out of your larynx. So inhale once, make everyone laugh, then give the balloon to someone else.
